The Republic of Angola on Monday called on the member states of the United Nations to support the efforts of the United Nations to ensure the will of the Sahrawi people to exercise its inalienable right to self-determination and independence, through a free and fair referendum.
In a speech before the UN Decolonization Committee, Angolan mission to the United Nations, welcomed the appointment of Staffan de Mistura as envoy to Western Sahara, expressing hope that this appointment would contribute to accelerating the implementation of the joint settlement plan between the United Nations and the African Union.
Angola emphasized that the continued existence of colonialism prevents the development of international economic cooperation and the social, economic and cultural development of the peoples of colonial Territories, particularly Western Sahara.
