Addressing the Special Political and Decolonization Committee (Fourth Committee) 75th Session of the General Assembly of the United Nations, on Monday in New York, the Republic of Botswana reiterated its solidarity with the people of Western Sahara, the last colony on the African continent.
Botswana called called on the parties involved, Morocco and the Polisario Front, to work towards achieving a peaceful, just, and lasting solution in conformity with relevant General Assembly and Security Council resolutions.
In this regard, it called on the Secretary-General to expedite the process of appointing a new Personal Envoy for Western Sahara and to relaunch the peace process.
Botswana underscored support for the inalienable right to self-determination of colonised peoples in Non-Self-Governing Territories.
