British state minister for Foreign Affairs for South Asia, the Commonwealth, and the United Nations, Lord Ahmad of Wimbledon, has reiterated his country’s position in support of a just solution to the Sahrawi issue that guarantees the right of the Sahrawi people to self-determination.

In response to questions from MP Andrew Mitchell about London’s efforts to support Staffan de Mistura’s efforts, the British official stressed that the United Kingdom was in regular discussions with the United Nations, both in New York and in the region, as well as with the parties to discuss the situation in Western Sahara.

In this context, officials met with Personal Envoy of the UN Secretary-General Staffan de Mistura in New York.

The British official stressed that the UK government encourages both parties, neighboring countries and international partners to make the most of the appointment of the new envoy to advance the peace process in Western Sahara.
