The Community of Latin American and Caribbean States (CELAC) reiterated Tuesday its support for the United Nations efforts aimed at reaching a solution that guarantees the Sahrawi people’s inalienable right to self-determination and independence.

CELAC, whose membership includes 33 countries from Latin America and the Caribbean, reaffirmed before the Decolonization Committee its support to all the resolutions of the General Assembly and the Security Council on Western Sahara.

The representative of Mexico, speaking on behalf of the Group, he stressed that CELAC continues to strongly support the efforts of the UN Secretary-General and his Personal Envoy in order to reach a just and lasting solution that enables the Sahrawi people to exercise its right to self-determination in line with the principles and Charter of the United Nations and General Assembly Resolution 1514 on the right of colonial peoples and countries to self-determination and independence.
