The Colombian government refuted on Sunday the allegations made by the official Moroccan News Agency regarding the alleged announcement of the Vice-President and Minister of Foreign Relations of the Republic of Colombia, Ms. Marta Lucia Ramirez, regarding what the Moroccan authorities considered an extension of the consular jurisdiction of its embassy in Morocco to include Western Sahara.

“In the face of misinterpretations published by some Moroccan media, we must emphasize that Colombia, as the Vice President and Minister of Foreign Affairs mentioned in the joint statement with Morocco, adheres to its historical position in support of various Security Council resolutions, in the search for a practical, realistic and lasting political solution to this conflict in Western Sahara, under the exclusive auspices of the United Nations. It welcomed the appointment of the new Personal Envoy of the United Nations Secretary-General for Western Sahara, Mr. Staffan de Mistura,” declared Colombian Ministry of Foreign Affairs in a statement.
