The Danish parliament’s foreign affairs committee on Thursday held a session devoted to discussing the situation in Western Sahara, especially with the resumption of the war and Trump’s declaration of recognition of alleged Moroccan sovereignty over Western Sahara.

The debate was attended by Danish Foreign Minister Jeppe Kofod, who responded to questions from Danish MPs about the situation in Western Sahara, Denmark’s position on Trump’s declaration on Western Sahara and the natural resources of Western Sahara.

During the session, which was also attended by the Minister of Trade, the Head of Danish diplomacy reiterated his country’s position on the Western Sahara issue, stressing that Copenhagen supports the United Nations efforts to reach a just solution and calls on the two parties, Morocco and the Polisario Front, to engage in negotiations.

On his country’s position on Trump’s declaration, the head of the Danish diplomacy stressed that Copenhagen’s position on Western Sahara has not changed, adding that President Biden’s administration recently reiterated its support for the United Nations efforts to cease fire and organize the referendum in Western Sahara.
