The European Union welcomed Tuesday the commitment of the United Nations Secretary-General Antonio Guterres to re-launch the negotiation process with new momentum to achieve a solution that guarantees the rights of the Sahrawi people in line with the Charter and principles of the United Nations.

In a speech after the Decolonization Committee adopted a new resolution on Western Sahara, the EU called on Morocco and the Polisario Front to continue to show political will to enter the new phase of negotiations and to ensure the implementation of Security Council resolutions and the success of the negotiations.

The EU expressed concern about the scarcity of resources for the Sahrawi people, urging the international community to make new and larger voluntary contributions.
