On Thursday, the European Union, in response to the outgoing US president’s decision on Western Sahara, confirmed that the latter is a non- autonomous territory.
The European Union spokesperson clarified in press statements that the final status of Western Sahara has not yet been determined and the future of the territory must be negotiated under the auspices of the United Nations.
The European official emphasized that EU supports UN resolutions that state that Western Sahara is a non-autonomous territory, and that it supports an agreed solution, including through the organization of the referendum.
