European Union follows developments in Western Sahara, supports UN efforts to find a peaceful solution

High Representative of the European Union for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy, Joseph Borrell, reiterated today, Tuesday, that the European Union is closely following the situation in Western Sahara, especially after the developments that took place in Guerguerat that led to the outbreak of war in Western Sahara.

In a written response to questions posed by Deputy Kostas Papadakis on the situation in Western Sahara, the European official affirmed that the European Union had undertaken a series of contacts to discuss developments, where it was stressed the need for a speedy resumption of the UN-led negotiations on Western Sahara.

The High Representative of the European Union renewed the European Union’s support for the UN endeavors to find a peaceful settlement to the question of Western Sahara, welcoming in this context the commitment of the UN Secretary-General to relaunch the negotiation process and resume the political process on the basis of the criteria set by the relevant UN Security Council resolutions.
