Minister of State at the German Federal Foreign Office, Niels Annen, revealed Tuesday in a statement to the German newspaper “Tageszeitung” that Morocco expects Germany to change its position on the Western Sahara conflict, i.e. to recognize that this territory it annexes is part of Morocco.
In this context, the German official clarified that all federal governments support the legal opinion of the United Nations that the status of Western Sahara has not been determined.
The German official stressed that the final status of Western Sahara is the subject of a UN-led negotiation process.
The German official concluded by stressing his country’s support for the efforts being exerted to reach a just, lasting and acceptable solution by Morocco and the Polisario Front in conformity with the relevant United Nations resolutions.
