The German government recently reiterated its position in favour of the efforts of the UN SG’s Personal Envoy for Western Sahara, Staffan de Mistura, for a just and lasting political solution in accordance with Security Council resolution 2602.
The German Government recently mentioned on its electronic site German-European relations and with other countries such as Morocco, Nadjat Handi, the representative of the Polisario front in Germany, told APS.
“Germany supports the efforts of the UN SG’s Personal Envoy for Western Sahara to find a just, lasting and mutually acceptable political solution in accordance with the provisions of Security Council Resolution 2602 (2021),” the government website read.
“The German government referred to Berlin’s support for the efforts of the UN SG’s personal envoy for Western Sahara, Staffan de Mistura, stressing that Germany’s position has not changed for decades. Indeed, it is a support to the UN recommendations”, Handi said, adding that “no support to the Moroccan project has been mentioned on the document”.
The German government strongly opposed the kingdom’s manoeuvres to get certain Eastern European countries to endorse the unilateral stance of former US President Donald Trump expressed a few weeks before he left the White House.
