Spanish Foreign Minister, José Manuel Albares, affirmed on Friday his country’s strong support to the Personal Envoy of the UN Secretary-General for Western Sahara, Staffan de Mistura, to accomplish the task entrusted to him.
“The Government of Spain wants to cooperate closely with de Mistura to promote the search for a mutually acceptable political solution, in accordance with Security Council resolutions based on the purposes and principles of the UN Charter,” Albaris said during a meeting on the sidelines of the Mediterranean Dialogues international conference in Rome.
It is de Mistura’s first meeting with a minister of the Friends of Western Sahara group, which includes Spain, the United States, Russia, France and the United Kingdom, which serves as a platform for consultation and support for the work of the United Nations by countries most committed to the western Sahara issue, the Spanish news agency reported.
