The President of the Sahrawi Arab Democratic Republic (SADR), Secretary-General of the Polisario Front, Brahim Ghali, stressed that, in view of the continuing Moroccan aggression with total impunity, the Sahrawi Republic had no choice but to exercise its legitimate right to self-defence.

In a message circulated Wednesday to members of the UN Security Council, the Sahrawi president stressed that the Sahrawi Republic would never give up the inalienable and non-negotiable right of the Sahrawi people to self-determination and independence and would continue to use all legitimate means to defend this right and the sovereignty of the territory of the Sahrawi state.

The Sahrawi president made it clear that the Moroccan presence in Western Sahara is an illegal military occupation, as confirmed by the General Assembly in its resolutions 34/37 of 1979 and 35/19 of 1980, among others. Therefore, all the actions of the Moroccan occupying state, whether political or of another nature, are essentially colonial practices imposed by force, and therefore they have no legitimacy and cannot have any effect on the legal status of Western Sahara.

He called for preventing Morocco from including occupied Western Sahara in the upcoming legislative elections and to end all illegal activities carried out by Morocco in these territories.

The Sahrawi president underlined that the Polisario Front, the only legitimate representative of the Sahrawi people, and the government of the Sahrawi Arab Democratic Republic (SADR) condemn and strongly reject the illegal process preparing for the holding of legislative elections in September, including the occupied territories.

It is a flagrant violation of the legal status of Western Sahara, a territory pending decolonization under the responsibility of the United Nations,” he added.
