President of the Republic, Secretary-General of the Polisario Front, Brahim Ghali, received a reply letter from the UN Secretary-General, Mr. Antonio Guterres, thanking him for the kind words of support on his reelection as UN Secretary-General.
The Secretary-General also recalled his strong commitment to work to promote the enduring values of the Charter of the United Nations, while emphasizing in the same context the commitment of the United Nations to find a solution to the question of Western Sahara.
The President of the Republic had sent a letter to the UN Secretary-General, circulated as an official document of the Security Council on 3 August 2021, in which he congratulated him on his election for a second term as the UN Secretary-General.
The President of the Republic also drew the attention of the Secretary-General and the members of the Security Council to the increasingly alarming situation in the occupied territories of Western Sahara, particularly following the aggression by the Moroccan occupying state against the liberated territories of Western Sahara on 13 November 2020.
The President of the Republic called on the UN Secretary-General and the Security Council to shoulder their responsibilities and provide protection to Sahrawi civilians in the occupied territories of Western Sahara. At the same time, he stressed that the Polisario Front would not stand idly by as the Moroccan occupying state escalated its war of aggression and retaliation against Sahrawi people, and that it reserved its legitimate right to respond forcefully and decisively to any action that would harm the security and safety of any Sahrawi.
