Irish Foreign Minister: Meeting of UNSC on Western Sahara an opportunity to review recent developments related to territory

Ireland’s Foreign Minister Simon Coveney has confirmed that the UN Security Council meeting on Western Sahara scheduled for April 21 will be an opportunity to review recent developments related to Western Sahara, which is on the agenda of decolonization issues.

In a written response to questions from Deputy Patrick Costello, the Head of Irish Diplomacy reiterated his country’s support for United Nations efforts to achieve a just and lasting solution to the question of Western Sahara.

The Minister explained that the Secretary-General of the United Nations was committed to the appointment of a new Personal Envoy for Western Sahara, and his efforts in that regard were active and continuous.
