High Representative of the European Union for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy, Vice-President of the European Commission, Josep Borrell, said on Friday that the European Union has sought clarification on the harassment and intimidation of Sahrawi journalists in the occupied Sahrawi territories.

In a written response to questions from members of the European Parliament, a copy of which obtained by Sumoud, the European official stressed that the European Union was closely following the human rights situation in Western Sahara.

Josep Borrell indicated that the European External Action Service had received information on the intimidation of journalist Ahmed Tanji, head of Equipe Media Group, and journalist Nazha Khalidi, and instructed the European Union delegation in Rabat to investigate the case.

The European official concluded by stressing that the European Union will not hesitate to raise issues related to human rights with the Moroccan authorities, as human rights and basic freedoms are a priority for the European Union.
