The head of the Sahrawi delegation to the work of the 2nd African Union-European Union (AU-EU) ministerial meeting held in the Rwandan capital Kigali, Mohamed Yeslem Beissat, said on Tuesday that the participation of the Sahrawi Arab Democratic Republic (SADR) in this meeting remains “essential”.

In a statement to APS, Mr. Beissat, also Ambassador of the Sahrawi Republic in South Africa, indicated that “the participation of his country in the ministerial meeting which is part of the partnership between these two institutions, African and European, comes to consecrate the national reality which cannot be denied or ignored “.

“The presence of the delegation among 83 participating countries, almost half of the UN member countries, in addition to the Kingdom of Morocco, within the framework of compliance with the law, proves that the acceptance of the Saharawi State as an irreversible reality and a factor of stability and balance in the Arab Maghreb region is the only way out of the Morocco-Western Sahara conflict, on the basis of which the international community should focus its efforts,’ he said.

The Sahrawi delegation had the opportunity to meet the ministers and heads of European and African delegations, recalled the Sahrawi diplomat, adding that the meetings focused on two themes, the first concerned the efforts of the UN vis-à-vis the Sahrawi question and the next meeting of the Security Council, while the second concerned the Ruling of the European Court of Justice (CJEU) regarding the EU-Morocco association agreements illegally including the occupied Saharawi territories.

The work of the 2nd AU-EU ministerial meeting started on Tuesday morning.
