Member of the Finnish Parliament and a former Minister for Culture and Sport, representing the Left Alliance, leader of the party from 2009 to 2016, Mr. Paavo Arhinmäki, has called on his country’s government to make the issue of ending the Moroccan occupation of Western Sahara a foreign policy priority.
During a debate on the government’s general budget for the year 2021, held Thursday at Parliament headquarters, the MP referred to the case of Western Sahara, which Morocco has occupied since 1975.
The MP emphasized that the European Union violated international law when it signed economic agreements with Morocco including the occupied Western Sahara.
The MP called on his government to defend the Sahrawi cause and assist the Sahrawi people to snatch its legitimate rights to freedom and self-determination. (Sumoud)
