The National Secretariat of the Polisario Front on Thursday held an extraordinary meeting chaired by President of the Republic, Secretary-General of the Polisario Front, Mr. Brahim Ghali, devoted to assessing the situation of the Sahrawi cause at the regional and international levels.
In the light of its assessment of the relevant situation, the National Secretariat has taken a set of measures and procedures dictated by the circumstance for the purpose of directing and correcting the national action in line with expectations and prospects.
In a statement culminating its meeting, the National Secretariat called on all militants, front branches and state institutions to be vigilant and ready to accompany and support the peaceful struggle carried out by the Sahrawi masses, and to be prepared for all eventualities and challenges.
The National Secretariat recalled that the breach opened by the Moroccan government in the Guerguerat region is a blatant violation of the ceasefire agreement concluded between the two parties to the conflict, the Polisario Front and the Kingdom of Morocco, under the auspices of the United Nations and the UN Security Council, and it is considered a continuation of the Moroccan government’s policy of abuse and indifference to international legitimacy, particularly UN Security Council Resolution 690 of 1991.
It held the Moroccan government fully responsible for the dangerous consequences that may arise from its positions in the event of any violation of the ceasefire.
It stressed that any retreat from the referendum on self-determination, which is the only mission of the United Nations Mission for the Referendum in Western Sahara (MINURSO), automatically drops the ceasefire, as it is an integral part of the settlement plan.
The National Secretariat of the Polisario Front called on the UN Security Council to assume its responsibilities and clear powers towards the Sahrawi people, who has the legitimate right to self-determination and independence and free choice of its future, and who is today more determined than ever to take up the challenge and use all means provided by international legitimacy if it does not see seriousness and credibility in the performance of the MINURSO mission, which has disappointed the Sahrawi people’s hopes and beliefs in it and in the UN Security Council.
