The Polisario Front denounced on Thursday “the harmful and irresponsible behaviour” of the European Parliament’s INTA Committee, which held debates on Tuesday on the EU-Morocco Association Agreement and its illegal extension to occupied Western Sahara.

“The Polisario Front has followed with the utmost attention the debates before the INTA Committee of the European Parliament, which took place on 13 July 2021, on the EU-Moroccan Association Agreement and its illegal extension to occupied Western Sahara,” said Oubi Bouchraya, member of the Polisario Front’s National Secretariat in Charge of Europe and the European Union (EU), in a communiqué.

“On this occasion, several parliamentarians questioned the European Commission on the non-conformity of agricultural products exported by the Moroccan occupier, in fraud of the European regulations. In addition, the European Commission has announced that it will send a new mission to visit the occupied territory at the end of the summer, in order to observe the so-called “benefits” of the extension agreement, in defiance of the Court’s rulings”, he stressed.

As the sole and legitimate representative of the Saharawi people, the Polisario Front denounces “the harmful and irresponsible behaviour of the European Commission”.

The communiqué recalls that since 2016, the EU courts have repeatedly ruled that in application of the principle of self-determination, Western Sahara has a separate and distinct status (from Morocco), and that the Sahrawi people, represented by the Polisario Front, constitute a third party subject to EU-Moroccan relations whose consent is binding on the EU, regardless of the alleged benefits.
