The Polisario Front said Thursday that it was satisfied with the resolution adopted by the European Parliament, which rejects the practices of the Moroccan regime, hoping that this decision commits the European Union (EU) to clearly break with the complacency and impunity towards Rabat.
“The Representation of the Polisario Front for Europe and the European Union takes note with satisfaction of this important resolution which puts the European Parliament in line with international law reminding Morocco of its international responsibilities which it has clearly failed to fulfil,” the Saharawi representation said in a statement.
The European Parliament adopted Thursday by a large majority a resolution rejecting the use by the Kingdom of Morocco of unaccompanied minors, as a means of pressure on Spain following the hospitalization in Spain of Sahrawi President Brahim Ghali last April. The final count of the vote resulted in 397 votes in favour, 85 against and 196 abstentions.
The resolution also reaffirms the position of the European Parliament on the conflict in Western Sahara, occupied by Morocco, and considers that the resolution of this conflict must be based on full respect for international law, UN Security Council resolutions and the UN-led political process.
