The representative of the Polisario Front in Washington, Mouloud Saeed, regretted Thursday the decision of outgoing US President Donald Trump to recognize the so-called Moroccan sovereignty over Western Sahara, stressing that such an approach will not change either the nature or the status of the occupied territories.
“We regret President Trump’s decision, but the reality is that Morocco occupies part of the territory of a member state of the African Union. Such decision will not change either the nature or the status of the territory,” declared the Saharawi diplomat in a first reaction to the decision of the outgoing American president.
“Moreover, the Sahrawi people cannot be used as a commodity in international diplomatic transactions. The Saharawi people will continue with their determination to fight until the end of the occupation and respect for the Charter of the African Union,” he added.
On Thursday, President Trump announced in a tweet that Morocco and Israel have reached an agreement to normalize relations.
