Algerian President, Abdelmadjid Tebboune, reaffirmed Saturday in Algiers, that the referendum of self-determination is the only solution to the question of Western Sahara.
“The policy of fait accompli is useless. Forty-five years have already passed without a solution being found. The referendum on self-determination is the only way out,” he stressed.
Regarding the question of Western Sahara, President Tebboune called for “the application of UN resolutions relating to the Western Sahara issue concerning the organization of a self-determination referendum, postponed for nearly three decades, the appointment as soon as possible of a Personal Envoy of the UN Secretary General, and the relaunch of the negotiation process between the two parties to the conflict “.
He reiterated Algeria’s position vis-à-vis just causes and its defense of the principle of popular legitimacy and the right of peoples to self-determination. (Sumoud)
