The Danish Parliament’s Foreign Affairs Committee on Wednesday called on the Foreign Minister to provide information about the government’s position on the disinformation policy pursued by Morocco regarding the food products originated in occupied Western Sahara.

The Committee stressed that the Danish Government is required to comply with international law and European Court rulings, calling for the need to show all information related to the country of origin of products, especially those coming from the occupied territories of Western Sahara and Palestine.

The Foreign Affairs Committee of the Danish Parliament referred to the recent position expressed by the European Union’s Foreign Policy Coordinator, Mr. Joseph Burrell, in which he asserted that all food products coming from Western Sahara toward European countries’ markets must be in line with the relevant legislation, including providing accurate information about its source and that they come from Western Sahara and not from Morocco.

The European Official clarified that the competent authorities in the member states bear the primary responsibility to ensure that the collective gain is respected in its entirety in relation to the marketing of food products and that the relevant information is disclosed to consumers.

The Polisario Front had stressed the importance of the European consumer being kept informed of the source of the products he buys and whether they are from Palestine or Israel or originating from Western Sahara or Morocco.
