Algerian Minister of Foreign Affairs, Mr. Sabri Boukadum, reiterated Algeria’s position in support of the Sahrawi people’s right to self-determination in line with the relevant UN and AU resolutions.
“Algeria’s position on the question of Western Sahara is consistent with the principles of its foreign policy, as it supports the right of the Sahrawi people to self-determination in accordance with international legitimacy and the relevant United Nations and African Union resolutions,” Mr. Boukadum stressed in an interview with the Army magazine published in its latest issue.
In regard to the impasse surrounding the file of Western Sahara, the Minister explained that Algeria had on many occasions called for the appointment of a personal envoy of the UN Secretary-General with the aim of returning to direct negotiations in good faith and without preconditions, between the parties to the conflict (Morocco and the Polisario Front) in order to end a long-standing conflict and enable the Sahrawi people to freely express their will.
Algeria’s position concerning Western Sahara falls within the framework of its firm commitment to a policy of good neighborliness and preservation of security and stability in the region, he added. (Sumoud)
