Sahrawi President, Secretary General of the Polisario Front, Brahim Ghali, on Wednesday called on the UN Secretary General to intervene in order to prevent Morocco from including occupied Western Sahara in the upcoming legislative elections and to end all illegal activities carried out by Morocco in these territories.
In a letter sent to the UN Secretary General, the Sahrawi president said that “the Polisario Front, the only legitimate representative of the Sahrawi people, and the government of the Sahrawi Arab Democratic Republic (SADR) condemn and strongly reject the illegal process” preparing for the holding of legislative elections in September,” including the occupied territories.
“A flagrant violation of the legal status of Western Sahara, a territory pending decolonization under the responsibility of the United Nations,” he said.
“The Moroccan presence in Western Sahara is an illegal military occupation, as stated by the UN General Assembly in its resolutions 34/37 of 1979 and 35/19 of 1980, among others. Thus, all actions undertaken by the Moroccan occupier are colonial practices imposed by force and have no legitimacy,” added Ghali.
