The UN Security Council officially has adopted a letter sent by President of the Republic, Secretary General of the Polisario Front, Mr Brahim Ghali to the president of the UN Security Council on On “the circumstances and backgrounds of the Moroccan military aggression against the Guerguerat region on November 13th.”
In his letter to the UN Security Council, President Brahim Ghali confirmed the military operation carried out by the Moroccan army against Sahrawi civilians in the Guerguerat region was “an act of aggression and a flagrant violation of the ceasefire, which the United Nations and the Security Council should condemn in the strongest terms.”
President Brahim Ghali clarified, in his letter, that “the Sahrawi army forces responded to this aggression, by clashing with Moroccan forces in self-defense and to protect the civilians.”
President Brahim Ghali held the Moroccan occupation state “fully responsible for the consequences of its military operation,” calling on the United Nations to “urgently intervene to put an end to the Moroccan aggression against the Sahrawi people and their territory.”
President Brahim Ghali highlighted, “this military action, which came on the eve of the scheduled contact between the Secretary-General of the United Nations and the Polisario Front, clearly indicates that the operation is a deliberate act of aggression on the part of the occupying power, to blow up the efforts aimed at defusing tension and calming the situation in the Guerguerat region.
In light of the above mentioned, the Sahrawi president stressed, “the Moroccan occupation state has seriously undermined – through this military operation – not only the ceasefire and the related military agreements, but also any chance of a peaceful and lasting solution to the question of decolonization in Western Sahara.”
