Swiss Foreign Minister, Mr. Ignazio Cassis, stressed that the solution to the Western Sahara issue must be in conformity with international law, including the United Nations Charter and relevant UN Security Council resolutions.
The chief of the Swiss diplomacy highlighted, in an oral response to questions raised by the Green Party MP Christine Badertscher, about the situation in Western Sahara, that Switzerland supports the efforts of the United Nations and its central role in the peace process in Western Sahara.
The Swiss Foreign Minister pointed out that the Federal Council is convinced that a just, lasting and acceptable solution for the two parties – Morocco and the Polisario Front – can only be achieved through negotiations.
Last May, the Swiss government donated 1.8 million Swiss francs ($1.9 million) to support the basic needs of the Sahrawi people.
Over the past years, the Swiss government contributed $30.6 million to support the Sahrawi people, it should be recalled. (Sumoud)
