The President of the Democratic Republic of Timor-Leste, H.E. Mr. Francisco Gutteres Lu Olo, has called on the United Nations to speed up the process for the decolonization of Western Sahara, in his speech before the UN 75th General Assembly in New York.
He also called for urgent appointment of a special envoy of the UN Secretary General for Western Sahara in order to revive the process of negotiations between the parties in conflict and find a solution ensuring the Saharawi People the exercise of the right to self-determination, according to the United Nations Charter and other relevant Resolutions.
On the other hand, the President of Botswana, H.E. Mokgweetsi E.K. Masisi, stressed the need to achieve decolonization and self-determination to all peoples.
In this regard, he voiced regret that protracted armed conflicts continue to ravage some parts of the world, stressing that total decolonization and self-determination of all peoples should remain high on the UN agenda. (Sumoud)
