The UN Security Council voted on a new resolution on Western Sahara, Resolution 2548, extending the mandate of the United Nations Mission for the Referendum in Western Sahara (MINURSO) until October 30, 2021.
Russia and South Africa abstained from voting on the resolution, which urgently calls for the appointment of a new envoy for Western Sahara with a view to resuming negotiations between the parties to the conflict, Morocco and the Polisario Front.
