A diplomatic source at the United Nations confirmed on Thursday that President Joe Biden’s administration was pressing to move the Sahrawi issue forward and appoint a new envoy for Western Sahara.

The French news agency reported that the UN Secretary-General, Antonio Guterres, had failed again recently in his effort to appoint an envoy for Western Sahara, after the Polisario Front rejected a Portuguese candidate because of his previous biased positions towards Morocco.

A diplomatic source confirmed that the Polisario Front, after examining his statements while Minister, rejected the proposal and confirmed that it had noted his biased positions towards Morocco.

The next meeting of the UN Security Council on Western Sahara is scheduled to take place on April 21, and it will be closed.
